| Joe Boyd Joe Boyd has incorporated into Build It Twice the insights
acquired over more than 40 years in the construction industry.
His insights also reflect a degree in business management
from Santa Clara University, and two years of graduate law at the University of San
Francisco, before the Korean War called him up to teach cryptography at SHAPE
Headquarters, Paris.
He returned to the University of California at Berkeley,
where he obtained a degree in civil engineering.
Over the next several years he worked in engineering
design, as field engineer for general contractors, and as senior engineer and
superintendent for the Bechtel Corporation. He was Director of Management Services for
Transamerica Corporation, where he managed the construction of residential, commercial and
high-rise projects throughout the western U.S.
By the time he established his own firm in 1963, Joe had
managed, and had assisted in disputes resolution, on over $150 million of construction.
J.A.Boyd & Associates (JBA) grew to a staff of 35 and
extended its services throughout the U.S., providing consulting and management services on
several billion dollars of design and construction and for the analysis, negotiation and
resolution of several hundred million dollars of construction disputes.
In addition to directing the services of his firm, Joe Boyd
has testified as an expert, and has been an arbitrator, referee and negotiator on diverse
construction disputes.
In "Built It Twice,
If You Want a Successful
Building Project," Joe has assembled these insights to produce a strategy that
the owner of any building project large, small, private or publiccan implement
to make that project successful.
He describes in detail the reasons projects get into
trouble. He demonstrates how those problems can be anticipated, managed and avoided. He
outlines a specific curriculum through which an owner can acquire the resources and the
tools an owner needs to realize a successful project.
He describes how the owner can use these resources to lead
those who will design and build his or her project to recognize the benefits that accrue
from working with clear guidelines and mutual respect. |
